Why did you choose to be an artist/designer?
I have always been interested in Art but it took me a long time until I decided to exercise my creativity. It helped me not only to express my ideas but also to develop a better “eyesight” to become more observant of the surroundings.
What medium do you work in?
I work with mixed media, then transfer my artwork into digital print on silk scarves. So my works exist as in painting as well as on fabric, thus the name WearableArt
What's your background, have you always been an artist/designer?
My initial background had nothing to do with the Art, as I majored in Humanities.
Art, however, was just one of my many interests, and I was passionate about. I finally found the courage (and time) to develop skills at a later stage.
How has your practice changed over time?
I started from still life paintings and drawings and later on moved to mixed media abstract paintings.
What Does Your Art Mean to You? What Does Your Artwork Represent?
I get my inspirations through daily life encounters, be it a stroll in the park or a laundry on a washing line. I express myself through collage and colour to illustrate a mood, a memory, an emotion, or an inspiration.
Each art work has its own story that connects memories, emotions, and scents, transforming them into collages of shapes and colours, veiled under the layers of paints and inks.
How and when did you started creating….?
I was always interested in Art, however didn’t have the courage to start until I was I was inspired by my then 7 year old daughter. Since she was a little kid, she used to spend the vast majority of her free time drawing, doodling, painting or crafting. Helping her to accomplish her artistic ideas, I felt the urge to express myself.
How would you describe your creations?
My art work is very colourful, emotional, and I am happy I can transfer it to silk, and make it wearable as well. I love silk, it’s an organic natural material: It is warm when you are cold and cold when you are warm, due to the natural moisture absorbent qualities.
Where do you show / sell your art?
I sell my Art work in Art boutiques in Edinburgh, USA, and travel to shows around Europe as well as online via my website and social media sites.
Do you think art can have an impact in the local community?
I think Art aims to inform, inspire and mobilize groups of people, through the production of common shared stories and representations, enhance connections and networks, improved stronger sense of place, and an increased civic participation.
Who are your biggest influences?
Henri Matisse, Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee, are my favourite artists. I love their use of colours, shapes,
textures, and patterns in their paintings. I also love Abstract expressionism, Archylle Gorky, Rauschenberg who used everyday objects in his artworks.
Which current art do you think is having an impact in the world right now?
I think contemporary art has been greatly influenced by the rapid development in digital and by the introduction of new, more attractive materials that artists can work with.
What difference has working with SDX made to your business?
I am quite new in the SDX community, and I think it’s great it exists as a hub giving the opportunity to the artists to exhibit their products.
