STUDENTS MAP OUT A BRIGHTER FUTURE FOR SCOTLAND’S CHILDREN
Imagine this. A map of Edinburgh that is fun, educational, interactive and inspiring, with all the proceeds from each sale going directly to Children 1st’. Buy one at our Leith store before 17 March 2019 and help turn an initial investment of £500 into a £5000 prize for Scots children.
To explain. The innovative ScatchED Map brings Edinburgh’s, sometimes hidden, gems to vivid life because it allows people to interact and learn as they navigate the city. The map is the brainchild of a group of University of Edinburgh Business School students taking part in a mischievously called ‘Dragons’ Glen’ competition organised in partnership with Children 1st. At the initial pitch, their idea secured an investment of £500. Now the group’s aim is to use that £500 to generate a £5,000 contribution to the charity before 17 March. Time is therefore of the essence. That’s why we are asking people to come along to the SDX store in Leith and pick up one or more of these fantastic products before the deadline date.
Let’s celebrate the next generation of entrepreneurs
When you buy a ScratchED Map, not only do you add vital funds to support Scotland’s children, you give a group of entrepreneurs in the making just recognition for their innovative idea. These students all studying Entrepreneurship and Innovation in our city have already proven they have the attributes to be architects of a new generation of socially minded businesses. With ScratchEd Map they have struck on something really exciting and while the idea may have been tested on world maps, this is a first for Edinburgh and adds fantastic value to what’s available to curious visitors to the city. And, let’s be honest, there are still far too many people who live in Edinburgh whose knowledge of the city remains scant. A ScratchEd Map is the perfect incentive to take the family on a walking tour of Central Edinburgh – using the map to navigate and discover in a single package.
Speaking for the group, Miroslava Bajzikova explains,” When we initially got together the idea of a scratch-off map for Edinburgh, with its breadth of attractions, really appealed to us. We wanted to make one to specifically cover the city's iconic locations, neighbourhoods, and streets - a souvenir that’s both artistic and interactive to remember the city by and can be displayed at home. The map allows you to scratch-off as you explore. On the back you'll discover a curated list with our local favourites (cafes, restaurants, and attractions), along with a fun fact and a quick quiz section to test your knowledge. Our focus in this competition is now to sell enough maps to achieve our £5,000 target by 17 March – every penny raised will be handed over to Children 1st. All we ask is that you get along to SDX in Leith and join us on this exciting journey!”
The ScratchEd maps are elegantly packaged in a gold coloured tube. Inside, is a beautifully illustrated map of the city, also featuring gold. The magic happens when one-by-one you scratch off the places you visit – revealing full details in colour.
