Erik Petrie is best known for his brightly coloured paintings of Scotland's beautiful scenery. Working mostly in acrylics Erik's artwork characteristically combines texture and tone with expressive brushstrokes.

His final year at ECA was spent under the tuition of Glen Onwin RSA, who encouraged Erik to develop his signature textural style, but it is his employment at the National Galleries of Scotland and the City Art Centre, Edinburgh that has had the biggest impact on Erik's art.

Another aspect of Erik's artwork is his use of digital media to create collages based on his photographs of urban decay, allowing him to combine his twin interests of social history and art. A collaborative residency at Ocean Terminal, Leith with the Edinburgh Quartet allowed Erik to combine these to create interpretations of the music through painting and photography.

"I want my work to reflect my love for colours, textures and tones, but above all, my fascination with light and landscape"
