  • Individual Finnieston Crane Model from the Clydeside Chess Set

  • Designed and manufactured in Glasgow by two Glaswegian Product Design Engineers

  • Made from a sustainable, plant-based material

  • Standing at an impressive 175 feet, the Finnieston Crane is a landmark well loved by the people of Glasgow themselves. Keeping watch over the river Clyde and the surrounding area, it is a proud reminder of how Glasgow's industrial and shipbuilding past was respected worldwide.

  • Built in 1928 and decommissioned in 1988, the crane is one of only 4 remaining along the banks of the Clyde. These giant cantilever cranes carried heavy machinery such as tanks and trains onto ships to be exported abroad. In its prime, the crane had a lifting capacity of 175 tons and could perform a full rotation in three and a half minutes. Today it is one of only 11 giant cantilever cranes left worldwide.
