Forth Rail Bridge, Print
Forth Rail Bridge, Print
Part of our Let's Celebrate Scotland Collection, a series of prints celebrating the Scottish landscapes. Our work is initially made from layering individual pieces of hand-cut paper, before being carefully photographed and printed onto high quality paper.
he Forth Rail Bridge was built between 1883 and 1890 by Sir John Fowler and Benjamin Baker with the help of over 4,500 men and was first opened on the 4th of March in 1890 by Edward, Prince of Wales. An extraordinary feat in engineering, the bridge is made up of three towers which soar over 100 metres high. The rail bridge is the world’s first all steel bridge and with its vibrant, eye-catching red colour, it is no wonder that the bridge has gained the status of one of Scotland’s major landmarks, being designated a World Heritage Site in 2015.
The phrase 'painting the Forth Bridge' is a popular term meaning ‘a never-ending task,’ due to the understanding that as soon as the crew had finished painting the entire 2.5km bridge, they would need to start again! Painting of the bridge was continuous right up until 2002, when a new glass-based paint was invented.
In our cut paper design, we have depicted the Forth Rail Bridge as it can be seen from North Queensferry on a beautiful summer’s day, having been inspired by the sunny weather Scotland has had this summer!
