This handmade necklace has been created using black basalt cobblestones that were once part of the historic roadway along Edinburgh’s Royal Mile. Rich in character and story, it makes a thoughtful gift for someone who loves Edinburgh and a truly one-of-a-kind piece of jewellery.

The world-famous Royal Mile stretches from Edinburgh Castle down to Holyrood Palace. During recent pavement widening works, the original cobblestones were lifted and relaid. Some of the remaining stones were then cut and polished into cabochons, which I have used to create a limited collection of jewellery.

This necklace features a delicate silver flower and leaves resting just below one corner of the cobblestone, which has been set in recycled sterling silver. A short section of cobblestone-shaped silver links leads into a simple chain, finished with a handmade toggle clasp. The flower detail has been gently darkened, creating a beautiful contrast against the deep black of the basalt stone.

This cobblestone necklace has been hallmarked by the Edinburgh Assay Office.

The pendant measures approximately 35 × 25 mm (including the flower), and the chain length is 18 inches.
